$180K Associates? Not at This Firm, Says Chair

Mark Stewart, chair of Ballard Spahr, said that his firm has no intention of raising first-year associate salaries to $180,000 as Cravath, Swaine & Moore did last week, a move that at least 56 other U.S. law firms have followed.

“It does not affect me,” said Stewart. “We could never explain it to the clients for whom we are getting work and the type of work we are getting.”
