Amazon Fires Back in Williams-Sonoma Trademark Suit

Amazon.com Inc. asked a federal court in California to toss out Williams-Sonoma Inc.‘s lawsuit alleging Amazon is diluting its trademarks by misrepresenting itself as an authorized Williams-Sonoma seller.

Williams-Sonoma alleges that Amazon is selling furniture and housewares under the brand name “Rivet” that resemble WSI’s West Elm® brand products. It also accuses Amazon of setting up an unauthorized Williams-Sonoma-branded store on its website that is likely to lead, and has led, consumers to believe that Amazon is authorized by or affiliated with WSI.
