The New York-based alternative legal services provider Axiom is opening a new office in Charlotte, N.C. as part of its efforts to expand its footprint in the Southeast.
Mark Paschal, engagement manager in the company’s Atlanta office, will head up the operations in Charlotte.
Paschal, a native of the area, said that Charlotte and the Carolinas are “a growing hub of commercial activity” with companies that are well-matched to the “on-demand” legal services that Axiom offers.
Among the Fortune 500 companies headquartered in North Carolina are Bank of America, BB&T, Laboratory Corp. of America and Quintiles Transnational Holding. Other companies based in Charlotte include Belk, BWX Technologies, Carlisle, Chiquita Brands International, Curtiss-Wright, Duke Energy, Nucor, Sonic Automotive, and SPX.
The Charlotte office will officially open in January, Paschal said.
Axiom offers a variety of services including contract management, in-sourcing, due diligence on corporate transactions, among other areas. The company has about 2,000 “teammates,” which include lawyers, legal professionals, process engineers and technologists and reports about $300 million in revenue.
Axiom’s North Carolina clients currently include Ingersoll Rand. Other worldwide clients have included Dell, Vodafone, and a number of investment banks.
Given the existing number of clients and Axiom’s regional expansion plans, Paschal said it was important to have “boots on the ground” that allows for close collaboration with clients. Such a physical presence also helps with recruiting “top-tier” legal talent, he said.
Axiom has already hired and extended offers to North Carolina attorneys as part of its regional expansion efforts and “we’re going to continue to try to find that elite talent that wants to practice in the Axiom mode,” Paschal told Big Law Business. “We’re looking at every practice area” and attorneys throughout the Carolinas, he said.
Axiom has offices throughout 15 regions around the globe, including Atlanta, New York and London.
