Calif. Rule Would Shine Light on Judges’ Harassment Settlements

California judges and judicial employees who settle complaints alleging sexual harassment and discrimination could soon see their names be made public.

The proposed change comes as the federal judiciary works to wrap up investigations into workplace misconduct in federal courts, with a final report expected in May. One prominent example late last year saw the retirement of Judge Alex Kozinski following reports of inappropriate behavior. California too has seen its share of changes, grappling with harassment allegations against a number of lawmakers and crafting legislation to address sexual harassment.
