California Bar Investigator Begins Probe in Exam Leak

The California Bar has retained a retired labor lawyer to lead the investigation into how question topics were leaked on the eve of the state’s summer bar exam.

The bar hired Jean Conrad Gaskill, who was a management-side labor lawyer with now-defunct firm Brobeck, Phlegar & Harrison, to conduct the probe. The inquiry began on Aug. 21, according to bar spokeswoman Teresa Ruano.

“Upon the receipt of the investigator’s report, the Board of Trustees will review and discuss next steps to be taken,” Ruano said.

Gaskill’s past clients have included Unocal, Matson Navigation Co., and California and Hawaiian Sugar Co. ...
