Coal Executive, Lawyer Sentenced in Superfund Bribery Scheme (1)

An Alabama coal executive and a lawyer representing his company face prison sentences for bribing a former state legislator to help them fight the expansion of federal cleanup efforts at a Birmingham hazardous waste site.

David Roberson, former vice president of government affairs at Birmingham-based Drummond Co. Inc., and Joel Gilbert, a former lawyer at Balch & Bingham, were sentenced in federal court Oct. 23 to prison terms of 30 months and five years, respectively. The two were convicted in July on six counts each related to a conspiracy to bribe Oliver L. Robinson Jr.
