Collector in ‘Heartbreak Hotel’ After Claim to Elvis’s Guitar Fails

A guitar collector doesn’t have any legal interest in an Elvis Presley guitar he tried to buy, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit said Sept. 14.

Instead, the museum that acquired the guitar as part of a sales-donation agreement that also involved a guitar once owned by Who guitarist John Entwistle is the rightful owner, the opinion by Judge Roger L. Wollman said.

During his final tour in 1977, Elvis broke a Martin D-35 guitar while on stage and gave it to someone in the audience. Robert Johnson purchased that guitar in 2007.
