Cuomo Tries Halting Berkshire Hathaway in its Tracks

New York state is urging legendary investor Warren Buffett and his company, Berkshire Hathaway Inc., to end its plan to store abandoned oil train cars on a stretch of tracks in the protected lands of Adirondack Park.

The state petitioned the Surface Transportation Board to ban the practice and pledged to take whatever legal means necessary to challenge the plan.

Some 75 abandoned oil tankers are currently stored on the site by Iowa Pacific Holdings, which has plans to store 2,000 rail cars owned by third parties there, according to a statement from Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo (D).
