FCC’s O’Rielly Says Internet Fast Lanes Will Spur Innovation

• Republican commissioner envisions fast lanes for telemedicine, 5G

• Also expects more sponsored data, new broadband offerings

The Federal Communications Commission’s Michael O’Rielly said Jan. 22 that internet “fast lanes” enabled by the recent changes to net neutrality rules will lead to innovation.

“Eliminating our ban on paid prioritization, I think, is going to be quite significant,” O’Rielly, a Republican commissioner, told a gathering of reporters at FCC headquarters in Washington.
