Fewer Sizable Deals Behind Slower 2019 Law Firm Merger Pace (1)

Law firm merger activity is off 10% so far this year due to a slowdown in larger firm combinations, according to the latest data from Altman Weil MergerLine.

There have been 47 deals announced through mid year with 20 in the second quarter, the latest figures of law firm mergers show. There were 51 through the first six months of 2018.

There have been fewer sizable deals overall. There were three mid-sized and large combinations in the first half of 2019 compared with an average of five acquisitions of firms with 20 or more lawyers in each quarter of 2017 ...
