Former CFTC Division Director Returns to Steptoe & Johnson

A former high-ranking official with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission has rejoined Steptoe & Johnson as a partner and co-chair of the firm’s financial services group.

Matthew Kulkin will be back at Steptoe beginning Nov. 4, for what will be his second stint with the firm. He was a partner there for two years before joining the CFTC, where he directed the commission’s swap dealer and intermediary oversight division.

At the CFTC, Kulkin was responsible for a number of capital market initiatives, including those related to futures, blockchain technology, and cryptocurrencies. His portfolio also included issues surrounding the ...
