Google’s YouTube Violates U.S. Law on Kids’ Privacy, Groups Say

• Asking FTC to investigate, possibly slap with penalties • Advocates say YouTube gathered up information on children

Alphabet Inc.’s Google collects personal information about kids on YouTube and uses it to target advertising in violation of federal law, according to a coalition of child advocacy and consumer groups that’s asking U.S. regulators to investigate.

While Google says YouTube is only for users ages 13 and older, it is used by more than 80 percent of U.S. children ages 6 to 12, the groups said in a statement. Google collects personal data about children and makes “significant profits” from advertisements ...
