Last year Big Law Business launched a video series featuring one-on-one conversations between leaders of top grossing law firms. The idea is to see a face-to-face discussion of the most important issues facing law firms today; a unique look at the people who run big law.

In our first set of videos Jami McKeon, the chair of Morgan Lewis, spoke with Roger Meltzer, the co-chair of DLA Piper. With all eyes on Washington, D.C. and the new administration, our second set of videos features the leaders of two firms with headquarters in the nation’s capital, Hogan Lovells and Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld.

Kim Koopersmith, Chair of Akin Gump.

Kim Koopersmith is the chair of Akin Gump. The firm was founded in 1945, and has more than 900 attorneys working in 20 offices worldwide. In 2015 their gross revenue was $930 million which ranked 29th among law firms in the U.S. Stephen Immelt is the Chief Executive Officer of Hogan Lovells. The firm’s U.S. roots date back to 1904. They have more than 2,500 lawyers and more than 40 offices worldwide. Hogan Lovells had the 9th highest gross revenue among law firms in the U.S. in 2015, with $1.8 billion. (Both numbers are according to the American Lawyer’s 2016 rankings.)

As with McKeon and Meltzer, Big Law Business provided an editorial road map for the conversation, which we present in four parts.

Part 2: running a large law firm, crisis management, growing revenue in a time of flat demand for legal services.

Part 3: taking over for Bruce McLean at Akin Gump and Warren Gorrell at Hogan Lovells, and law firm culture.

Part 4: millennial lawyers, flexible work schedules, legal technology, cybersecurity, leisure time for law firm leaders.
