Judiciary Moves to Amend Judges’ Code in Light of #MeToo

New amendments to judicial codes of conduct concerning sexual harassment in the judicial workplace were proposed today by the Judicial Conference, the policy-making body for the federal courts.

Among the most significant change is the fact that judges who become aware of sexual harassment allegations must report them to the chief judge of their court, Chief Judge Merrick Garland, of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, said in a press briefing following the bi-annual Judicial Conference meeting. Failure to do so would itself constitute judicial misconduct, Garland said.
