Labor Dept. Taps Gibson Dunn Lawyer in Top Legal Post

The Labor Department has added another attorney with a big law pedigree to the agency’s senior ranks.

Rachel Mondl, a former Gibson Dunn associate and Republican Capitol Hill staffer, is the DOL’s new deputy solicitor for policy, the department announced on its website.

While at the management-side firm Gibson Dunn, Mondl represented the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in a lawsuit challenging the fiduciary rule, which required retirement advisers to act in their clients’ best interests. After she left the firm, the Chamber’s case led the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit to vacate the regulation in March.
