Legal Aid for Tenants Gets Boost from Federal Grant

One-third of the legal aid groups that received a special Legal Services Corporation innovation grant will use it to help those facing eviction, LSC announced Aug. 2.

There’s an “enormous need” for legal assistance in eviction cases, LSC President James J. Sandman told Bloomberg Law in an email Aug. 3.

The vast majority of tenants facing eviction have no lawyer, he said.

LSC innovation grants under the Pro Bono Innovation Fund are intended to help legal aid groups find ways to get more attorneys to volunteer their time, Sandman said.
