Mississippi Man Tried Six Times for Same Murders Gets Bail (1)

A black Mississippi death row inmate tried six times for the same crime by the same prosecutor was released from prison months after the U.S. Supreme Court found his case was tainted by race discrimination in jury selection.

Curtis Flowers was freed Dec. 16 on $250,000 bail after decades behind bars for the 1996 murders of four people at a furniture store that he swears he didn’t commit.

“It’s a great day,” said Cornell Law School’s Sheri Lynn Johnson, who argued on behalf of Flowers at the high court in March.
