News Corp. Protects Documents in Antitrust Battle Over Ad Buys

Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. doesn’t have to hand over draft marketing documents sent to its in-house attorneys for review, a federal court ruled in a retail marketing antitrust dispute.

Valassis Communications, Inc. alleges that News Corp. and its related entities engaged in unfair and anti-competitive strategies with respect to the purchase of rights to the promotional displays in food, drug and big chain stores. Companies like Valassis and News would acquire those rights, then sell them to manufacturers of the goods sold in the stores.
