Senate Finance Committee Advances Tax Court Nominee Toro

The Senate Finance Committee voted unanimously May 23 to advance the nomination of Emin Toro to serve on the U.S. Tax Court.

  • At his May 9 confirmation hearing, Toro said he would work hard to clear the backlog of cases from the partial government shutdown that ended Jan. 28.
  • Senate confirmation of Toro, a partner in the Washington office of Covington & Burling LLP, would still leave the Tax Court short of its full 19-judge roster.
