Andrew Knight, a finance lawyer who specializes in representing asset-backed lenders, is the latest in a series of partners to depart Squire Patton Boggs’ London office for Crowell & Moring’s expanding outpost in the city.
Knight, who will join the corporate and financial services practices at Crowell & Moring, works with banks and non-banks, in the U.S., U.K and beyond. He has served as lead counsel on matters related to the collapse of the Icelandic bank Landsbanki and as lead counsel to lenders financing the acquisition of BritishSteel by Greybull Capital.
Four associates will also be joining Crowell & Moring from Squire Patton Boggs later this month and in April.
“This is just another example of how we plan to strategically grow our team here and turn the office into a formidable force in London,” Robert Weekes, managing partner of Crowell & Moring’s office in the British capital, said in a statement.
Knight’s arrival comes just weeks after three other partners, Robin Baillie, Paul Muscutt, and Cathryn Williams, left Squire Patton Boggs to join Crowell & Moring in London. Litigator Laurence Winston is also in the process of making the same transition, according to Weekes.
Weekes, who ran Squire Patton Boggs’ London office for ten years is another recent addition. He decamped to Crowell & Moring in January. “It was a great fun journey, I fully enjoyed doing that job, but 10 years was the limit,” he said.
In his new role at Crowell & Moring, Weekes has been tasked with growing the firm’s London office, which currently has about 15 to 16 people, including staff, he said. Squire Patton Boggs still has a sizeable London office, and the recent lateral departures only represent a small portion of the firm’s attorneys.
Weekes said Crowell & Moring soon will be hiring more lawyers from Squire Patton Boggs, but he declined to say whom. The firm also plans to hire laterals from other firms in the region, paying particular attention to the practice areas of regulatory, trade, insurance, corporate, banking, and litigation.
“It’s a pretty exciting time at Crowell,” Weekes said.
