Target Faces Design Patent Suit From Restoration Hardware

Luxury furnishings retailer Restoration Hardware Inc. filed a complaint yesterday accusing discounter retailer Target Corp. of infringing four design patents covering outdoor furniture.

The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, is over the Smith & Hawken brand’s Premium Edgewood line of wicker patio lounge line sold by Target.

According to Restoration Hardware’s complaint, the Premium Edgewood pieces are so similar to its Provence line that Target must have been aware of the Provence items before developing and marketing the accused items.

Target declined a Bloomberg Law request for comment.
