Tariffs Guzzling Profits, Beer Industry Group Says

The Trump administration’s steel and aluminum tariffs threaten to push off course the retooled North American Free Trade Agreement, business groups said at a hearing.

The deal—-which is on its way to be signed Nov. 30—won’t become effective until tariffs on the metal imports from Canada and Mexico are eliminated, private-sector witnesses told the International Trade Commission Nov. 16.

“Tariffs are taxes, and quotas limit growth,” Beer Institute President and Chief Executive Officer James McGreevy III said.
