Texas Sues Austin in Effort to Enforce Sanctuary Cities’ Ban

Texas sued the city of Austin, its elected officials and the county sheriff to enforce the nation’s toughest state-level ban on sanctuary cities, just hours after Republican Governor Greg Abbott signed the measure into law.

The lawsuit is a preemptive strike against advocacy groups that have pledged legal action to challenge the state’s effort to penalize cities that give safe harbor to undocumented immigrants.
