President Donald Trump’s nominee for an open SEC seat told the Senate Banking Committee July 24 he supports a “strong enforcement program” at the agency amid questions from Democrats whether the commission is tough enough on wrongdoers.
Elad Roisman declined to say whether he thinks recent SEC penalties have been meaningful enough to deter bad behavior in the securities industry when pressed by Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), the committee’s ranking member. Roisman said each case presents unique facts and circumstances.
But there is “no place in our markets for bad actors,” Roisman told lawmakers during his confirmation hearing.
