U.S. Must Stand Up for Immigrants, New ABA President Says

The U.S. must stand up for immigrants, said new American Bar Association President Judy Perry Martinez in taking the reins of the membership group.

Martinez touched on immigration themes in a speech on Monday after receiving the gavel from outgoing President Bob Carlson at the ABA convention in San Francisco.

“Our Constitution demands, and our laws confirm, that we afford due process rights to immigrants and asylum-seekers who are in or, are seeking entry into the United States,” Martinez said.
