UC Berkeley Weighs Removing Law Building Name Linked to Racism

The University of California, Berkeley, is weighing whether to remove from a law school building the name of an alumnus who championed excluding Chinese from the U.S.

More than 600 “passionate, persuasive messages” were sent to Law Dean Erwin Chemerinsky, who asked for comments about removing John Boalt’s name from the building at the School of Law informally known as “Boalt Hall.”

A final decision about “de-naming” the building will be made by the UC Berkeley chancellor.
