Wake Up Call: Apple Tagged With $145 Million Patent Verdict in California

• A California federal court took a bite out of Apple Inc., the world’s first $1 trillion company, hitting it with a $145 million patent infringement verdict related to voice-over LTE technology used in several iPhone models. “It’s tough to beat Apple in California, so obviously we were gratified that we got the result we got,” said McKool Smith founder and chairman Mike McKool, who led the team that won the verdict for the firm’s client, Canadian technology company WiLAN Inc.
