Wake Up Call: As EU Privacy Rules Kick In, Regulator Says Don’t Expect Lenience

• The world’s toughest data privacy rules take effect today in the European Union, after years of planning by regulators, and preparation by lawyers and other practitioners. They’ll have immediate impact on organizations ranging in size from internet giants Facebook and Google to libraries and schools, and the EU’s lead privacy regulator warned companies to comply or get fined.
