Wake Up Call: Sears Has Paid Millions in Fees to Weil, Wachtell for Its Bankruptcy

• Recent filings shed light on Sears Holdings Corp.'s spending on outside lawyers for its Chapter 11 case. For example, it has paid $10.15 million to Weil, its lead counsel for the case, and nearly $1.4 million toWachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz. ( American Lawyer ) The retailer opted to file its bankruptcy in White Plains, New York, far from its headquarters in Chicago. That could be because Sears’ longtime leader, Edward Lampert, and its creditor banks think they can get White Plains’ only bankruptcy judge, Robert D.
