Wake Up Call: With Deal Rejected, Lawyers Urge Companies to Prepare for ‘Hard’ Brexit

  • Lawyers urged U.K. companies to get ready for a hard, no-deal exit from the European Union this March, after Parliament yesterday overwhelmingly rejected Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit deal with EU leaders. With no agreement to address Brexit’s potential impacts on taxation, trade, intellectual property law, and other key matters, “all businesses can do is continue to implement their hard Brexit contingency plans to ensure they are prepared for any outcome on March 29. “Uncertainty remains, which means risk for business,” said Daniel Shurman, partner at elite London firm Allen & Overy.
