Week Ahead at SCOTUS: The (Wo)Man on the Street

This week the high court returns to possibly the Chief Justice’s least favorite topic: redistricting.

C.J. John G. Roberts Jr. haslamentedthe fact that a special procedure requires the court to hear these disputes, despite having almost complete discretion over the rest of its appellate docket. The Chief worries that “the intelligent man on the street” may not understand the particulars of why the court is ruling for a particular political party in these cases, and will mistake the court for just another political branch.
