Laura Gibson, a partner at Dentons who heads the firm’s employment and labor practice team in Houston, will be installed as the chair of the board of the State Bar of Texas June 22. She will serve a one–year term.

Gibson’s duties will include working with the state bar president to increase diversity and inclusion for all lawyers, she told Bloomberg Law. It’s important to “show young women who are entering the profession that they can succeed,” she said.

Gibson has been active in bar associations and diversity efforts for years. She was president of the Houston Bar Association in 2015-2016. She received the Trailblazer Outside Counsel Award from the Texas Minority Counsel Program in 2013.
