YouTube Scores Win in Alleged Political Post Censoring Case

YouTube, a site that encourages consumers to upload videos, is not a government-controlled entity and isn’t required to comply with free speech requirements, a federal court ruled.

Prager University, a conservative digital media organization, sued YouTube and its parent Google LLC, alleging that the video site censored its conservative posts. But YouTube and Google, which is a unit of Alphabet Inc., are private-sector entities, and YouTube’s video site operations don’t amount to public functions that are meant for state actors, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California ruled March 26.
